Bonne nouvelle. La semaine de la chance commence demain. C’est le moment où jamais de parier, à l’occasion d’un diner en ville, qu’une série télévisée peut constituer une forme d’art. Ce coup de chance, vous le devez à une femme très talentueuse. Avec Top of the lake, ce jeudi sur Arte, Jane Campion signe une perturbante, puissante et magnifique série télévisée. Trois preuves que l’art peut surgir du petit écran.
Sur les pas de Robin Griffin – Elisabeth Moss – un détective qui recherche Tui, une jeune fille de douze ans enceinte et portée disparue dans la nature sauvage néo-zélandaise, la réalisatrice ne nous raconte pas une histoire de flics de plus. Elle explore la solitude qui peut ronger les êtres humains et questionne leur capacité à survivre malgré la rudesse des obstacles méthodiquement placés par l’existence. Sommes-nous au moins capables de cela? Il n’y aura pas de réponse. Mais de nombreuses questions surgiront le long du chemin.
Top of the lake propose presque un aller simple. On ne ressort pas tout à fait indemne de ce voyage émotionnel télévisuel. L’écriture intelligente de Jane Campion associée à Gerard Lee, sa réalisation splendide, le talent incroyable de ses acteurs et la beauté à couper le souffle des paysages néo-zélandais expliquent tout. Pari gagné d’avance, on vous dit.

You might want to thank a very talented woman for this lucky break. With Top of the lake, this thursday on Arte, Jane Campion makes a disturbing, powerful and beautiful television show. Three serious evidences that art has something to do with it.
Following the footsteps of Robin Griffin – Elisabeth Moss – a detective looking for Tui, a missing twelve years old pregnant little girl in the wilderness of New Zealand, the director is not telling another crime story. She is exploring the loneliness of human beings and questioning their ability to survive despite the harshness and the obstacles of life. Can people even do that? There will be no answer. But a lot of questions along the way.
Top of the lake is very much like a one-way trip. No one can easily come back from this emotional TV journey. Thanks to Jane Campion and Gerard Lee intelligent writing, her stunning filming, the incredible talent of her actors and the breathtaking beauty of New Zealand landscape. Told you, an easy win.
